Outdoor Learning Sessons

Dear Parents and Carers,

Further developing outdoor learning is something the Exe Valley Federation has been keen to do for a number of years, building on the existing provision and opportunities the pupils currently experience. This year we have launched our new outdoor learning programme which will allow children to develop a wide range of skills incrementally over their time at Cheriton Fitzpaine Primary school.

On the 6th October and 9th November, pupils from Ash class will be participating in a full day of outdoor learning activities which I will be planning and delivering with the help of other members of school staff. These sessions will give children the opportunity to develop a wide range of outdoor skills and knowledge. The activities may include cooking on open fires, fire lighting, wood whittling/carving with tools, team building, nature activities and navigation practice (which may include a walk from school).

These sessions will run outdoors throughout the year so it is important that your child comes suitably dressed for the season and expected weather to enable them to get the most out of the sessions.

In the summer/warmer weather children should bring: a small rucksack, water bottle, snack, sun hat, jumper, trousers, long sleeved t-shirt and water proof jacket (and trousers if they have them).

In winter/colder weather children should bring: a small rucksack, water bottle, snack, warm hat, gloves, multiple warm layers of clothing including trousers and a long-sleeved top, a warm/water proof jacket (and water proof trousers if they have them).

Children do not need to wear uniform during these sessions, and should wear old clothes.

These sessions will give children the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities and learn new skills.

Please confirm consent on the school gateway.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me via the school office.  I am very much looking forward to working with class.

Kind regards

Ed Nichols
