Church and Community
11th November 2020
We commemorated Remembrance Day in a different way this year, but it was still a good Remembrance Day. The children did lots of work during the day on the history of Remembrance Day and what it means.
We heard lots of stories about grandparents and great-grandparents and what their roles were in the Second World War or after.
Class 1 looked at some of the history of Thorverton during the War. We all gathered on the playground at a social distance to observe the two minutes’ silence. We listened carefully for the canons, which we heard to start our two minutes, and the bugle at the end.
In the afternoon Class 1 also did some art activities with a focus on the poppy. Their paintings and wreaths are really lovely.
We also have wreaths and crosses to put up at the war memorial. It was a different, but still special Remembrance Day.
